Emergency Child Care List
Posted 3/11/20

Dear GOK families,

I have received some information for child care options.  Attached is a list of emergency child care options around the district that may be of assistance to you.

Emergency Child Care List

Children's Choice will offer a program at GOK beginning March 17th.  Below is a letter from Children's Choice explaining their program opportunity.

Thank you for your patience while we gather information that has been changing moment by moment over the last 24 hours. Here is what we know at this time.

Classes in all NM schools have been cancelled for the next three weeks because of a state Public Health Order banning gatherings of 100 people or more. Since schools are important community hubs that provide child care and food distribution, we will be providing EMERGENCY child care at all of our school sites from 8 am – 5 pm, Monday through Friday. This could change if situations change. The following locations will also be offering breakfast and lunch in the cafeteria: Arroyo Del Oso, Comanche, Georgia O’Keeffe, Inez, Manzano Mesa, Sombra Del Monte, and Zuni. If your child is attending any other site, you must provide them with a sack lunch. We will be offering a morning and afternoon snack.

The process of creating the registration system, staffing schedule, moving our environment, and programming for this session is very complicated. Since we are just now receiving this information after 5 pm on a Friday, the staff are going to need Monday to plan and prepare. Therefore this program will start on Tuesday March 17th.

This is emergency child care. If it is possible for your child to remain home with you or a loved one for the next three weeks, we strongly recommend that you do that. If your child is completely well, and you NEED our child care (and have absolutely no other options) so that you can work and provide for your family, we are here for you. The safety of your child, our staff, and your family is our focus at this time. We have limited each site to 30 children, and instead of combining sites like we normally would for Spring Break, we will keep each site open to increase social isolation which hopefully prevents the spread of the virus.

We will be hyper-vigilant about hand washing, and disinfecting tabletops and materials. APS is providing custodial service dedicated to this emergency program. Do not send your child if he or she is sick or becomes sick over the next three weeks. If a child becomes sick (coughing, sneezing, runny nose) during the program, we will isolate the child, make them comfortable on a designated sick mat, and call for the child to be picked up immediately. Areas and materials that we know the child was near will be disinfected.

Price is $135 per week or $36 per day. Current CYFD contracts will be honored for this emergency child care

You can sign up through your parent portal: Click on “Emergency Child Care” to request care. You have until 11:00am on Monday, March 16th to sign up. Completing the registration does NOT guarantee you a spot in the program. We will notify you by the end of the day if your child has received a spot. If you have not received an email from us by the end of the day on Monday, it means we are unable to accept your child at this time. We will notify you right away if a spot becomes available.

Please note: Due to these changes, we will also be cancelling our previously scheduled Spring Break care. If you were registered for Spring Break before, you will no longer be signed up or charged for that program. This means you are NOT registered for care for the week of March 30th through April 3rd. If you absolutely need care that week, you MUST sign up for the Emergency Child Care as described above.

Since our regularly scheduled Before and After-School Care program will not be taking place for the next three weeks, your account will NOT be charged for care (unless you receive a spot in our Emergency Child Care program). If you have any other questions about billing, please email

Thank you for your patience and understanding during this difficult time. We hope you and your family remain safe and healthy.
