GOK Weekly Updates

Principal Owen Updates

May 2, 2021

Dear GOK Families,

This week we celebrate teacher and staff appreciation.  Each day this week, PTA has organized a special day.  Please consider how you might be able to celebrate our staff this week along with us.  Our staff work so hard.  We really appreciate all they do for our students.

Can you believe it's almost May? And that means...Teacher Appreciation Week! On May 3-7, GOK PTA has planned a week of fun themes and little surprises for our teachers and staff, and we invite you to help us celebrate them. Feel free to use these suggestions, or show your appreciation in whatever way is most meaningful for your family.

Teacher Appreciation Suggesions May 3-7, 2021

Public Health Order Updates:

This past week Bernalillo moved to green.  The current Public Health Order does not impact New Mexico’s public schools.  While we are pleased with the positive momentum across our state, we remind you that all COVID-Safe Practices (CSPs), including mask-wearing, are still in effect.  Also know that effective February 11th, there is no longer a requirement to self-quarantine after traveling outside of the state.

Next Year Student Placement:

Each year we consider parent input when building class lists for the next school year.  Please complete the Parent Input Placement google form here to provide your input by May 10th.  The form will be turned off and no longer available after May 10th

If your child will not be returning to GOK or another APS school next year, please complete the form for parent input and let us know where your child will be attending.

Student devices will stay with students over the summer.  If your child will not be returning to GOK or an APS school next year, we will collect the device from your child on the last day of school.  Please let us know if you will not be returning.

Health Office Updates:

This is a reminder to not send your child to school if they don't feel well. Your child may be sent home from school for reporting or demonstrating any of the following symptoms Temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher, chills, sore throat, runny nose, congestion, new frequent dry cough (for student with chronic allergies/asthma, a change in baseline cough), shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, loss of taste or smell, new onset of headache, fatigue, body aches. If your child is sent home from the isolation room, they cannot return to school for 10 days unless proof of a negative COVID test (with 24 hours fever-free and symptoms improving). If your child is sent home from the isolation room they can participate remotely until their 10 days are complete or return earlier with a negative COVID test.

Reporting COVID:

With students returning in person, it is important to keep students home who are showing signs of illness.  Remember to report a student (even if they are remote learning)who is COVID positive to school administration or the health office.  Please contact Principal Jessica.owen@aps.edu or our school nurse mann_cr@aps.edu if your child tests positive at any time.

Counseling:

Now that we are returning to school for in person learning, if you would like our school counselor, Ms. Valdez to check in with your child, please email her at valdez_g@aps.edu and let her know.  If your student is staying remote for the remainder of the year and would like Ms. Valdez to check in on them or continue with support, let her know.
